SPANS Functionality
SPANS (Spatially-enabled Permitting and
Notification System) is designed to electronically and centrally manage
inter-company communications associated with joint use projects.
Projects
SPANS manages the communication and
process flow for all types of joint use projects, and supports any combination
of customer allowed transactions within an individual project. As an example,
pole placements, removals, replacements, relocations and sales can all be
supported along with attachment additions, removals, transfers, relocations,
and replacements. SPANS can also be used as a notification and management tool
to support mitigation of code violation, double wood/2-pole and unauthorized
attachment conditions.
SPANS
supports communication throughout the full lifecycle of each project from
initial notification through project closure. Each SPANS project is composed of
a series of records. Once transmitted, SPANS records are preserved as
time-stamped “read only” data. Within each type of project, the workflow,
terminology, attributes, picklists, data validation and data relationships can
be configured based on customer preferences.
Pole Records
In addition to managing “project-level”
data, information for individual poles associated with each joint use project
can be managed and shared within SPANS. Release 2.1 provides full support for
mixed pole ownership and any combination of pole-specific
actions and replies within a single SPANS project.
Less detailed project configurations, not requiring individual pole records,
are also supported by SPANS.
Attached
Files Digital files such as design
drawings, pole profiles, loading calculations, and digital photographs can be
linked to a project or an individual pole, and shared by pole owners and
attachers. SPANS allows the attachment of large or multiple files by providing
the capability to upload and download compressed (zip) files.
Alerts All
SPANS project transmittals are complemented by alert messages delivered to
involved parties. Alert messages may be delivered to recipients exclusively
within the SPANS environment or may be additionally delivered via email,
depending on user preferences.
Reports SPANS
database architecture supports the generation of a wide range of management
reports. A combination of user-defined and pre-defined reports including stored
and/or calculated values are available. Release 2.1 supports pole-level
reporting. SPANS reports can be saved, printed, or exported to a neutral
format.
