SPANS Differentiators

Fundamentally, SPANS is intended to provide significant benefits to the management of joint use communications as compared to the paper/phone/fax/email communication practices in use within many utility and communications companies today. SPANS also offers significant advantages over other electronic communications systems available in the market today. A few of these advantages are highlighted below:

Contemporary Solution Architecture with User Friendly Interface
The SPANS architecture combines Microsoft .NET and SQL Server technologies resulting in a secure state-of-the-art solution which can be extended to support enterprise integration objectives. SPANS' web-delivered user interface pages are consistently organized, intuitively structured, and robustly functional.

Configurable Managed Workflows
Managed work and communication flows are central to SPANS' functional value. This aspect of the system is used to assign project status, queue pending project actions, and generate user alerts based on the content and context of transmitted project information.

Use of Geographic Criteria and Controls
Geographic location information stored within the SPANS database is correlated with company and user information to support targeted communication and data control functionality. Project contact information for recipient companies is automatically populated based on pre-defined geographic company contact identities. Access privileges to project information and alert receipt can also be controlled based on geographic criteria.

Ability to Attach and Store Digital Files
SPANS allows external files to be attached to project records and accessed by involved parties using locally available applications. Files including documents, spreadsheets, design drawings, pole profiles, pole loading calculations, and digital photos can be easily attached to a project and accessed by users with appropriate privileges.

Generation and Distribution of Alerts
At each change in project status, and when specific events are defined as overdue, alert messages are generated and distributed to involved SPANS users. Alerts are delivered to appropriate users within the SPANS environment, and can optionally be complemented by messages delivered to an external email address.
