SPANS to be Implemented across Penelec, Met-Ed and JCP&L Utility Service Areas
Wind Lake Solutions (WLS) is pleased to announce FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) will implement WLS’ SPANS™ (Spatially-enabled Permitting and Notification System) within its Pennsylvania Electric Company, Metropolitan Edison and Jersey Central Power & Light electric utility subsidiary service areas.
Wind Lake’s industry-leading SPANS product is a web-based application that enables efficient communication, rigorous management, and timely and accurate reporting essential to the effective execution of utility/telecom joint use and joint ownership activities.
SPANS was initially implemented by FirstEnergy at its Ohio Edison utility in 2008. With this announcement, SPANS now is used by all 10 FirstEnergy utilities.
“We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to implement SPANS across all of FirstEnergy’s utility companies,” said Gary Miller, Vice President – Solutions Development at Wind Lake Solutions. “SPANS brings a consistent approach to joint use and joint ownership management while still maintaining important regional process distinctions.”
WLS’ SPANS™ (Spatially-enabled Permitting and Notification System) is a hosted web-based solution designed to electronically and centrally manage inter-company communications associated with joint use pole attachment projects. SPANS’ robust configurability allows each system deployment to be tailored to the specific informational and workflow requirements of user companies.
